TWO STOREY PREFAB HOUSE
South Yarra, Victoria
An innovative structural design was required for a small, highly constrained 86 sqm site on a clay ground that had high double-storey buildings on either side of the site.
DWA created board pile diaphragm walls to enable excavation without the surrounding buildings collapsing. All elements, including the basement walls, were precast.
DWA implemented an effective design which enabled glass inserts to be installed into the suspended floor slab, to provide direct light into the basement. Further, an innovative stormwater and collection system was designed to meet Local Authority statuatory requirements.
The site went from a flat site to a completed structure (shell) in six weeks.
